If someone exaggerates a problem or makes a small problem seem far greater than it really is, then they are making a storm in a teacup; or so says the dictionary definition
I have always really liked that expression for some reason, yet I have always thought of it in a different way than the dictionaries do. I often think of myself and anyone in my vicinity as the teacup, and of myself glowing a fiery red and shaking and starting to sweat while my blood pressure skyrockets as the storm and then conclude: Wow, that must be one hell of a storm for anyone inside that teacup...
